Give Feedback on the Proposed Energy Consumer Protection Act

Postby CLS » Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:33 pm

As we recently posted, Ontario is in the process of preparing legislation that will address unfair practices in the energy industry, including energy re-billing.

If you are interested in providing feedback to the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure on the proposed Energy Consumer Protection Act (Bill 235), please go to http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca and click on Current Bills. Under Bill 235 you will find background information on the proposed law and information on providing written submissions for improvement on or by February 6, 2010.

Wearing one of her other hats, Community Law School's Legal Education Coordinator Margaret Capes has assembled a team at Community Legal Services, the student legal aid clinic at Western Law. The team will prepare a submission to the Ministry and will be attending legislative committee hearings if they are scheduled. Margaret and her team would appreciate knowing if any other groups are planning on preparing submissions as we work towards better regulation of energy re-billers in Ontario. They can be reached at mcapes@uwo.ca.

Thank you!
