Margaret Capes Named to London Mayor's 2009 Honour List!

As we proudly announced in a media release on January 1, 2009, Margaret Capes, Legal Education Coordinator of Community Law School, has been named to London Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best's 2009 Honour List. Media Release—2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2009

Community Law School (Sarnia-Lambton) Inc. is pleased to announce that its Legal Education Coordinator, Margaret N. Capes, has been named to London Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best’s 2009 New Year’s Honour List. The Mayor’s Honour List recognizes philanthropic work in the London area. Ms. Capes, a lifelong resident of Lambton County, was honoured for her work on behalf of disadvantaged persons in the area of Housing. Honourees named to the Mayor’s 2009 List were announced on January 1, 2009, and will be recognized at the January 19, 2009 meeting of the London City Council.

Ms. Capes is the former Executive Director of Community Legal Assistance Sarnia. She currently acts as Review Council for Community Legal Services and Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law. She also acts as Faculty Advisor to the Faculty of Law’s Dispute Resolution Centre and Pro Bono Students Canada chapter. Under her guidance, Western law students undertake a variety of legal services, as well as public legal education and outreach initiatives, to and on behalf of low income, marginalized, and disadvantaged persons.

In addition, Ms. Capes continues her role as Legal Education Coordinator of Community Law School (CLS), a public legal education program in Lambton County. CLS provides advocacy training for front line social service agency staff, grassroots consumer advocates, and members of the low income community in Sarnia Lambton. In conjunction with Lambton College, CLS also offers a Certificate in Community Advocacy program, with courses available live at Lambton College and Ontario-wide online.

Margaret's contributions to the Sarnia Lambton Community are well known. By honouring Margaret, the London community is also recognizing Margaret's contributions, dedication and commitment to their community ”, said Peter Dirks, Community Law School Board Chair.
